Council Begins Process to Replace Jones
The council will appoint a new council member Feb. 16. Those interested in the seat must apply by noon on Feb. 10.

The Anne Arundel County Council has begun the process of filling the recently vacated District 1 seat.
The council has 30 days to fill the seat that opened in District 1 after approving an that declared Daryl Jones seat vacant as of Monday when he was scheduled to report to federal prison. He is scheduled to serve a five-month sentence for failing to file 35 federal income tax reports between 2002-2006.
According to a press release from the council, anyone interested in the position should submit a cover letter and personal resume to Elizabeth E. Jones, administrative officer to the county council, by noon on Feb. 10.

Interested candidates must have been a registered Democrat for the 12-month period immediately prior to the Feb. 16 appointment, reside in District 1 and be at least 25 years old. A completed financial disclosure statement also will be required by the deadline.

The council will appoint the new member at a public meeting on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in the County Council chambers.
Jones' lawyer attempted to file a restraining order barring the council from removing him from his seat, but was denied on Wednesday.
