Glen Burnie:

A customer who resisted demands to give up his belongings was stabbed during the robbery of a Glen Burnie restaurant Sunday night, police said.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the restaurant in the 400 block of Crain Highway South at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday for a reported robbery.

Once on the scene, officers spoke with several witnesses who said at least two men, one armed with a handgun and another armed with a knife, entered the restaurant and announced a robbery.

After preliminary investigation, police learned that the men took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business as well as money and personal property from patrons in the restaurant. One customer appeared to resist the men and suffered a laceration to the torso.

According to Anne Arundel County Fire Batallion Chief Steve Thompson, the patron, a 54-year-old man, was stabbed during the robbery and taken to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Police said the men fled the area with another man, who was outside the businesses and possibly acting as a lookout.

Officers, a K-9 unit and an aviation unit searched the area but were unable to find the men, police said.

Two other victims, who were hit by one of the men, did not require medical treatment.

Brooklyn Park: Robbery

A teenage boy robbed a 9-year-old boy as he rode his motorized mini-bike in the Park Elementary School parking lot Sept. 28.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the school, located in the 200 block of East 11th Avenue in Brooklyn Park for a reported robbery. Once on the scene they spoke with the 9-year-old boy who said a teenage boy approached him while he rode his mini-bike in the school’s rear parking lot and pushed him off his bike. The 9-year-old boy told police he attempted to get his bike back but the teenage boy fled on the bike on 11th Avenue heading toward Brookwood Road.

Officers and the aviation unit searched the area but did not find the teenage boy.

About 30 minutes later, a neighbor said he saw a teenage boy on the 9-year-old boy’s bike in the area of Cross Street near 6th Street. The neighbor told police he knew the bike belonged to the 9-year-old and chased the teenage boy, who then left the bike in a wooded area before running toward Baltimore City.

The 9-year-old was not injured and his bike was returned to him.

Glen Burnie: Carbon monoxide poisoning

A 53-year-old man was hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning around 6:50 p.m. Sept. 28, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Steve Thompson. He was discovered unconscious and breathing slowly and was taken to .

The man had lost power and was running a generator inside his home, Thompson said. 

Any carbon monoxide level above nine parts per million is considered unsafe, but the level inside the man's home was 900 parts per million, said Thompson who warned residents never to run generators inside their homes.

Brooklyn Park: Assault arrest

A Baltimore man was arrested and charged with theft and assault last week after police said he robbed a Brooklyn Park Rite Aid and then threatened a police officer with a dirty syringe.

Telly Sharon Marshall, 35, was charged with theft under $1,000, attempted theft under $1000, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the Rite Aid in the 5800 block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park at about 3:25 p.m. Sept. 28 for a reported theft. Police said Marshall dropped the store’s merchandise and ran as officers arrived. An off-duty officer saw Marshall in the median of Ritchie Highway near Hammonds Lane and approached him.

Police said Marshall then pulled a hypodermic syringe, stabbed himself with it repeatedly and then threatened to infect the officer with a communicable disease. The officer protected himself from Marshall, who was able to continue to run north along Ritchie Highway.

Officers searched the business area but were unable to find him.

Then at about 3:15 p.m. officers responded to the Save-A-Lot store in the 5000 block of Ritchie Highway for another reported theft by a man matching Marshall’s description. Police said Marshall filled a trash bag with merchandise while displaying a knife before running north on Ritchie Highway.

Officers located and arrested him as he tried to hide in the 4500 block of Ritchie Highway. No one was injured during the incidents.

Glen Burnie: Drug arrest

Police arrested a Glen Burnie man and a Pasadena woman Sept. 28 after seizing drugs during a traffic stop, police said.

Brian Fitzgerald Mattison, 43, of Glen Burnie and Cynthia Denise Murray, 49, of Pasadena both were charged with possession with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine.

According to a police press release, officers stopped a 2001 Cadillac in the area of Broadview Drive in Glen Burnie at about 1:50 a.m. when they seized about 27 grams of cocaine and $486 in cash.

Glen Burnie:

Four men robbed a 24-year-old man as he walked on the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail near Foxwell Bend Road in Glen Burnie at about 9 p.m. Sept. 27, police said.

A 24-year-old male victim said he was walking on the B&A Trail when he encountered four men, according to a police press release. One man asked for a cigarette while another man grabbed the victim and threw him to the ground.

At that time, the men went through the victim’s pockets and removed an undisclosed amount of cash prior to fleeing the area on foot, according to the police report. Several officers and a K-9 unit searched the area, but were unable to locate the men.

Glen Burnie: Robbery

A man robbed a Glen Burnie Burger King Sept. 27, police said.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the Burger King located in the 5700 block of Ritchie Highway at about 3:50 p.m. for a reported robbery.

Once on the scene, officers spoke with store employees who said a man came in to the store, placed and order and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register during the transaction.

He also assaulted a store employee during the incident. The man was seen driving north on Crain Highway in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the man. The employee was treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said.

Glen Burnie:

An accident involving an overturned Cloverland Dairy tractor trailer shut down Interstate 97 for four hours Sept. 25, Maryland State Police said.

The accident, involving the tractor trailer and another vehicle, occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. and shut down I-97 southbound at Aviation Boulevard. Police said it was unknown what caused the accident as of 12:45 a.m. Monday, but that the tractor trailer rolled onto its side, blocking I-97.

The highway did not reopen until about 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Glen Burnie:

A man was killed in the early morning hours of Sept. 25 after being struck by a car while trying to cross Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie.

Police identified the man Sept. 26 to be James William King Sr. of no fixed address.

Anne Arundel County Police said they responded at about 3:30 a.m. to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. They arrived in the area of Furnace Branch Road and South Meadow Drive and found a maroon Chrysler 300 stopped in the roadway. They also found an unidentified man lying in the southbound lane of Furnace Branch Road. Police and fire officials examined the man’s injuries and pronounced him dead.

After an investigation, police learned that the driver of the Chrysler, 22-year-old Joshua Allen Foard of Baltimore, was traveling northbound on Furnace Branch Road when he struck the pedestrian, who was walking on the shoulder and attempting to cross road from east to west.

Police said it appeared that the pedestrian did not have the right of way, and stepped into the road in front of the car. Foard immediately called 911 after the incident, police said.

“It appears at this point in the investigation that pedestrian error was a significant contributing factor, as well as pedestrian conspicuity,” county police said in a press release.

Police said they do not believe speed or alcohol played a role in the incident.

Glen Burnie:

A 32-year-old man was rushed to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Sept. 24 after being struck by a car in the South Gate area of Glen Burnie.

Lt. Cliff Kooser of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said the pedestrian was struck near the intersection of Quarterfield Road and Old Stage Road shortly after 7:30 p.m.

The victim was transported to the hospital by ground, and sustained injuries that were serious, but not life threatening.

Glen Burnie: Armed robbery

An 18-year old Glen Burnie man was the victim of an armed robbery Sept. 22, police said.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the 7800 block of Tall Pines Court in Glen Burnie at about 2:05 a.m. for a reported armed robbery. Once on the scene, officers spoke to the 18-year-old man who said that after he got out of his vehicle two men approached him an demanded his belongings. The men obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and a phone from the 18-year-old man before fleeing toward the Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Officers and a K-9 unit searched the area but were unable to find the men. The victim was not hurt during the incident.

Brooklyn Park:

Anne Arundel County Police are investigating a Racial, Religious, Ethnic, Sexual Orientation or Disability (RRESOD) hate/bias incident in Brooklyn Park in which racially offensive graffiti was scratched into a man's car.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the 300 block of Church Street at about 9 a.m. Sept. 22 for a reported RRESOC hate/bias incident.

Once on the scene, officers spoke with a 28-year-old black man who said when he awoke and went out to his Lincoln Town Car, which was parked in Alley 37 overnight, he saw extensive damage to the interior and exterior of the vehicle.

Damage included racially offensive graffiti scratched into the hood and trunk, a smashed windshield and sunroof, slashed passenger side tires and interior upholstery and the car was keyed along the driver's side, police said. Items also were stolen from the trunk.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate a suspect. Police said it was unclear if it was a random or targeted act.

Glen Burnie: Drug arrest

Police arrested a Lanham man Sept. 21 after allegedly finding drugs during a home visit conducted with members of Anne Arundel County Parole and Probation.

Vernon Donte Blount, 28, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana and possession of cocaine and marijuana.

According to a police press release, Anne Arundel County Police detectives went to an apartment in the 600 block of Millwright Court with members from parole and probation. During the visit, detectives found about 10 grams of cocaine, 7.5 grams of marijuana and $250 in cash.

Glen Burnie: Armed robbery

A 30-year-old pizza driver was robbed at gunpoint Sept. 21, police said.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the 700 block of Hamlen Road in Glen Burnie at about 11 p.m. for a reported armed robbery. Once on the scene officers spoke with the pizza driver who said a man armed with a handgun robbed him of an undetermined amount of cash.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the man.

Brooklyn Park: Armed robbery

A 32-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in Brooklyn Park Sept. 21, police said.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the area of 11th Avenue and Victory Avenue in Brooklyn Park for a reported armed robbery.

Once on the scene officers spoke with the man who said he was walking down 11th Avenue when two men passed him. The victim said the men suddently turned around, approached him from behind and one man pulled a handgun. The victim dropped his backpack and ran. The men took the backpack and fled the scene in a dark-colored Caravan-style van toward Baltimore.

Officers searched the are but were unable to find the men.
