Glen Burnie: Carjacking

A 19-year-old man was the victim of a carjacking in Glen Burnie Sunday night, police said.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the area of Hospital Drive and Crain Highway for a reported carjacking that occurred in the 200 block of Somerset Bay Drive in the Islands of Fox Chase community.

Once on the scene, officers spoke with a man who said he was going to meet a friend in the apartment community when two men approached his 1997 Audi, one displaying a handgun. Both men took the 19-year-old’s clothes, cell phone and wallet before driving off toward Hospital Drive in the victim’s Audi.

The victim’s friend came and they both began to follow the suspects toward Crain Highway before eventually pulling over to meet with officers at the Green Tree Exxon on Crain Highway.

Officers, a K-9 unit and an aviation unit searched the area and found the Audi abandoned in the Burger King parking lot on Crain Highway. However, they were unable to find the suspects.

Brooklyn Park:

A man was rushed to an area hospital Saturday night with serious and life-threatening injuries after an explosion rocked a Brooklyn Park home.

Anne Arundel County Fire spokesman Capt. James Rostek said around 7:16 p.m. Saturday crews responded to a 911 call for a reported explosion with a person burned.

Three engines, a ladder truck and multiple fire units rushed to the scene on Franklin Avenue, according to Rostek.

The man was trying to light a fire in the fireplace of his home using wet wood. When the fire wouldn't light, he used gasoline, which Rostek said caused the explosion.

Paramedics transported the man with serious and life-threatening injuries to his legs to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center regional burn unit.

Pasadena:

A Glen Burnie man was arrested after police said he assaulted a 43-year-old man with his Volkswagen Jetta Sunday afternoon at Safeway on Mountain Road in Pasadena.

According to a police press release, officers arrived at the grocery store located in the 4200 block of Mountain Road at about 3:40 p.m. Sunday.

Once on the scene, they spoke with the victim who said Erik Smith, 36, accelerated his car toward him in the parking lot at Safeway, hitting him with the car's mirror after the victim jumped out of the way.

Police said the man yelled at Smith, who then stopped the vehicle, backed up and accelerated toward the man again. The man was not hit a second time, but police said Smith hit a parked vehicle before parking his Jetta and entering the Safeway.

Police entered the store and located and arrested Smith, who was charged with first- and second-degree assault along with multiple traffic violations.

Brooklyn Park: Robbery

A man stole a bicycle from a 10-year-old Brooklyn Park boy Saturday night, police said.

According to a police press release, officers spoke with the 10-year-old at about 8 p.m. Saturday and the boy said he was riding his bicycle on Brookwood Road near 11th Avenue East in Brooklyn Park when he was approached by a man who pushed him off his bike. The man kicked the boy, took his bike—a 20-inch BMX—and was last seen riding the bike south on Brookwood Road.

Police searched for the man but were unable to find him.

Brooklyn Park:

Anne Arundel County Police arrested 16 people during the month of August after looking into complaints of drug activity and prostitution at two Brooklyn Park motels.

According to a police press release, officers conducted "Operation No Vacancy" during the month of August and served nine search-and-seizure warrants at Budget Plaza Motel and Park Plaza motel resulting in the 16 arrests. Detectives said they seized about 17 grams of suspected heroin, 30 grams of suspected cocaine, $1,143 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

Those arrested include , 24, of Annapolis, who overpowered a guard Sept. 1 after appearing at a hearing in District Court and escaped. Officers found him in the Admiral Heights neighborhood of Annapolis later that night.

He was arrested on a North Carolina warrant in which he was wanted in connection with a shooting and rape.

Others arrested during Operation No Vacancy include:

  • Denise Perry, 46, of Baltimore—charged with soliciting prostitution.
  • Shannon Lamont Oliver, 36, of Halethorpe—charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine and heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and served an outstanding warrant in Baltimore City.
  • Mia Denise Thompson, 46, of Glen Burnie—charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Lyle A. Lincoln, 53, of Huntingtown, MD—charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Jessica Lynn Amos, 29, of Baltimore—charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and served an arrest warrant out of Baltimore City.
  • Antron Trimitrious Bulow, 30—charged with possession of phencyclidine (PCP) and served a warrant for robbery, burglary and assault. He is a resident of Odenton, according to court records.
  • Jessica Marie Vernon, 22, of Glen Burnie—charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and was served on a Baltimore City warrant.
  • Welford Elroy Keemer, 38, of Severna Park—served three warrants for failture to appear on auto theft charges.
  • John Michael Fuhrer, 29—charged with distribution of heroin, possession of heroin, cocaine and "look-a-like heroin" and possession of paraphernalia. He is a resident of Halethorpe, according to court records.
  • Paul Madore, 23, of Baltimore—charged with disorderly conduct, destruction of property, faiure to obey a lawful order and second-degree assault, according to court records.
  • Kenneth M. Carpenter, 47—charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana and possession drug paraphernalia. Police listed Carpenter as living at Park Plaza Motel, according to court records.
  • Leroy Scott, 63, of Baltimore—charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Mary Hegazi, 38, of Baltimore—charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine and possession drug paraphernalia.
  • Angela Marie Tyndall, 31, of Brooklyn Park—charged with soliciting prostitution.
  • Melanie Dawn Wengert, 30, of Glen Burnie—charged with soliciting prostitution and possession drug paraphernalia.

Glen Burnie: Robbery

A man and woman were robbed outside Pop’s Grocery and Deli in Glen Burnie Thursday, police said.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the store in the 7400 block of Furnace Branch Road for a reported robbery.

Once on the scene, officers spoke with a man and woman who said two teenage boys with handguns approached them outside the store and demanded money. The teens took the woman’s purse, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash and various personal items. The teens searched the man but nothing was taken.

The teens ran toward the rear of the building heading west. Officers and a K-9 unit searched the area but were unable to find them.

Glen Burnie: Robbery

A teenage boy stole a 12-year-old boy’s bicycle in Glen Burnie Sept. 14, police said.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the 6400 block of Lamplighter Ridge at about 3:50 p.m. for a reported robbery.

Once on the scene, officers spoke with the 12-year-old boy, who said he was riding his bike in the area when a teenage boy approached him and punched him, knocking him to the ground. The teenage boy then stole the 12-year-old’s bike, riding toward Heritage Hill Drive.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the teenager, police said.

Glen Burnie: Robbery

Police released surveillance camera photos of a man who they believe robbed a Glen Burnie Days Inn Wednesday.

According to a police press release, a man entered the Days Inn at about 1:20 a.m. located in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, implied that he had a weapon and robbed the hotel. The man then ran toward the rear of the Days Inn, police said.

The suspect is described as being a black man standing about 6 feet tall with a heavy build.

Glen Burnie: Drug arrest

Police arrested a Glen Burnie man Sept. 9 and charged him with several drug offenses.

Torey Jamal Dudley, 25, of Glen Burnie, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine and marijuana and reckless endangerment.

According to a police press release, officers conducted a traffic stop on a 2002 Acura sport utility vehicle at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Crain Highway in Glen Burnie.

During the traffic stop, detectives said they saw Dudley attempting to hide suspected cocaine under a small child that was seated in a car seat. Detectives ultimately seized 15.01 grams of suspected cocaine, 8.78 grams of suspected marijuana and $798 in cash.
