DISCUSS: Glen Burnie Mom Shares Reasons to Homeschool

A Glen Burnie mother recently wrote an article for LearnVest.com, a financial website for women, where she explained her choice to homeschool some of her children. What choices have you made for your children's education?

Glen Burnie resident Cate Dwyer recently added her voice to the MoneyMic Series on LearnVest.com where she spoke about her choice to homeschool her younger children.

Dwyer said she and her husband sent her two oldest children to private school, but when they had their third child—10 years after her second was born—they decided they weren't financially able to pay the $10,000 per child, per year tuition.

The stay-at-home mother broke down the financials of homeschooling and determined that she spends $1,000 to $1,500 per child, per year on the three children she currently instructs at home. Dwyer said she plans to homeschool her youngest child when he reaches school age.

Dwyer said the main reason she chose to homeschool her children was because of her religious convictions.

"We believe that God gave parents the responsibility to raise, train and educate their own children," she wrote in the article.
