UPDATE: Kitten Taken From Inside Wall of Glen Burnie Apartment

Firefighters used a thermal imager Friday to locate a kitten behind an apartment wall in Glen Burnie.

(UPDATE May 28, 12:45 p.m.): After a kitten was pulled out of a wall in a Glen Burnie apartment by firefighters, the Anne Arundel County Animal Control decided the best option was to put the kitten down.

"The kitten was emaciated and extremely ill," said police spokesperson Justin Mulcahy, in an email to Patch. "Due to its condition, the kitten was euthanized for humane purposes at Animal Control to alleviate any further pain and suffering."

The old cliche of firefighters using a cherry picker to rescue cats from trees took a modern spin last week, as a crew from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department used a thermal imager to locate a kitten inside the wall of a Glen Burnie apartment.

The firefighters responded to the apartment on the 8000 block of Nolpark Court on Friday, after someone reported hearing a faint "meow" noise.

After locating the kitten with the thermal imager, a crew cut a hole into the wall and recovered the kitten, which was sitting on the fire stop inside the wall. The department does not know how the kitten got into the wall.

The department turned the cat over to Anne Arundel County Animal Control, where it is getting veterinary treatment.
