Former North County High Wrestler to Serve 6 Days For Assault

James Patrick Downey III, 19, will serve six days of a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to the assault of a Towson University student in November 2009 in Baltimore.

According to an article in the Baltimore Sun, all but six days of his 10-year sentence was suspended as a result of the plea, which he began to serve immediately.

The judge in the case, Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Timothy J. Doory, had strong words for Downey at his sentencing—saying the teen, who in Oregon City, OR—needed a wake-up call.

Downey spoke with Patch earlier this year about different assault charges that were brought against him in 2009 and 2010. In March 2011, .

"Thinking about it, it was a dumb reason to be in that situation," he told Patch in April of the Glen Burnie incident in which he was charged in September 2010 for being in a car when the passengers knowingly dragged a 16-year-old drug dealer alongside it for a stretch. "It was so pointless that I had to go through all of that. I was mad at myself. That mistake will never happen again."

The Sun reported that another asssault charge was suspended indefinitely Tuesday.

"My main lesson is that you've got to know that you're living your life for bigger things. You're a public example. It's definitely not always fair, but that's what you've got to deal with," Downey said in April.
