Glen Burnie Costco Evacuated Wednesday Due to Freon Leak

The store, located on Ordnance Road, was evacuated for about 40 minutes before customers and staff were allowed back into the store.

The at 575 Ordnance Road was evacuated around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday because one of the refrigeration units in the store was leaking freon, said Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Cliff Kooser.

People in the store reported smelling an odor, which fire department crews determined was coming from freon leaking from a refrigeration unit near the produce department, Kooser said.

It took crews about 40 minutes to evacuate the building, isolate the leaking unit and shut it down. Customers and staff were then allowed back in the store.
