Judges Hand Down Sentences in Glen Burnie Cases

A Lanham man was sentenced five years in connection with a March 2011 shooting in the Marley Station mall parking lot and a judge sentenced a Glen Burnie man to 17 years in prison for trafficking PCP and cocaine.

Judges handed down sentences in two separate Glen Burnie cases last week.

In the first case, , 23, of the 9000 block of 4th Street in Lanham was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison with the judge suspending all but five, according to The Capital.

Gayle entered an Alford plea to attempted second-degree murder and use of a handgun in a felony in connection with the in the parking lot, according to online court records.

An Alford plea means he maintains his innocence while admitting that the prosecution has enough evidence to convict and carries the consequences of a guilty plea.

After serving five years in prison, Gayle also will have five years of supervised probation upon his release, according to the Capital.

Gayle was accused of shooting Ricky Johnson, 23, of Snow Hill in the parking lot of Marley Station mall. Johnson was released from the hospital in April, according to the Capital.

Through investigation and evidence collected, including drugs that were recovered from the scene, police determined the incident was drug related.

Police noted that none of the people involved were from Anne Arundel County and the Marley Station mall was chosen only as a meeting point.

On Friday, Ryan David Matthews, 24, of the 8100 block of Harold Court in Glen Burnie pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 years in prison for trafficking in PCP and cocaine in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Prosecutors said another Glen Burnie man, Charles Ladrell “Jody” Downs, 40, of the 400 block of Jumpers Court and four others also have pleaded guilty in the case, according to the Sun.
