PEPCO Impersonator Pleads Guilty to Glen Burnie Incident

Craig Stevens Brooks, 50, of Washington, DC, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, a charge that carries a mandatory 25-year sentence without parole.

A Washington, DC, man pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree assault in a in which he robbed a woman at her Glen Burnie home while impersonating a PEPCO employee, according to the State's Attorney's Office.

Craig Stevens Brooks, 50, is also charged in a .

"The recording of today's proceedings has been sealed pending the resolution of the Prince George's County case," State's Attorney's spokeswoman Kristen Fleckenstein said in an email.

Brooks also faced reckless endangerment and handgun charges, but the assault charge carried the highest amount of mandatory jail time at 25 years without parole, Fleckenstein said.

Last year officers worked with the Prince George’s County Police Department regarding the similar 2011 incidents, and arrested Brooks. Police said Brooks later was identified as being involved in the Glen Burnie robbery where a 48-year-old woman was robbed at her home in the 400 block of Bousch Place. Police said Brooks posed as a utility worker and knocked on the woman's door saying he was checking for a possible gas leak.

Officers responded to the woman’s home and learned that once the suspect was inside, he robbed the homeowner at gunpoint.

According to police, Brooks told the woman that he was familiar with her family and their business. Witnesses told police the man got into a dark gray Honda sedan, which was parked on a nearby street.
