POLL: Who Should Fill District 1 Seat?

The County Council will meet again Tuesday afternoon to attempt to break the deadlock between District 1 applicants Mike Wagner and Peter Smith.

After 100 rounds of voting on Thursday, the Anne Arundel County Council was deadlocked at 3-3 between two applicants to fill the empty District 1 seat—Mike Wagner and Peter Smith.

The council will meet Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the hopes of breaking that tie before their 7 p.m. regular meeting.

Smith, a Severn resident, is a Marine Corps Reserve lieutenant working for the NSA. Wagner is a former senator and delegate from Glen Burnie who has had a business presence in the region for decades.

Councilmen Jamie Benoit (D-4th District) and Jerry Walker (R-7th District) raised issues of ethics last week when Wagner, owner of Michael's Eighth Avenue banquet hall and Wagner & Sons food and restaurant supply in Glen Burnie, attempted to make a donation to The Committee to Elect Dick Ladd.

Benoit, Walker and Councilman Chris Trumbauer (D-6th District) voted for Smith. Ladd (R-5th District) and councilmen John Grasso (R-2nd District) and Derek Fink (R-3rd District) voted for Wagner.
