Prominent Physician Killed In I-97 Car Crash: Report
The former head of a burn center in Washington, D.C., died last week in the three-car crash on Interstate 97, says media report.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A prominent physician who treated burn victims in Washington, D.C., died last week in a traffic accident on Interstate 97, according to a media report. Dr. Marion Jordan, 74, was killed early Friday in the three-car crash, the Washington Post reported.
Jordan was a former director of the burn center at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. A hospital spokesman said that under Jordan’s leadership, the center’s burn and trauma teams earned worldwide recognition, particularly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon, the Post reported.
The D.C. fire department also praised Jordan and his staff for their work in treating firefighters who had suffered burns.

The fatal accident early Friday happened at about 1:30 a.m. on southbound I-97 between Route 100 and Quarterfield Road.
The Maryland State Police said a Hyundai Elantra driven by Jordan and a Mercury Sable were involved in a crash in the middle lane of the highway. Jordan and a passenger in the Sable got out of their vehicles after the crash.

As they stood near the cars, a Hyundai Accent crashed into both vehicles and struck both men standing on the highway.
Jordan, who lived in Edgewater, died at the scene, the Post reported.
The driver of the Accent, a woman in her 20s, and the Sable's passenger were taken to hospitals in Baltimore, along with the car's driver, a woman, and an 18-month-old girl in the Sable, Anne Arundel County fire officials said.
The Accent driver was treated for minor injuries. The Sable passenger was critically hurt, the woman driver suffered serious injuries, and the toddler had minor injuries, county fire officials said.
I-97 was closed for several hours following the two crashes. The State Police said Friday that the causes of both collisions were being investigated.
