Q&A: Marley Elementary Assistant Principal Cheryl Cox

Patch caught up with assistant principal Cheryl Cox in December during the school's lunch shifts.

Patch stopped her to ask .

Glen Burnie Patch: How long have you been in education?
Cheryl Cox: This is my 17th year. I started in Baltimore City then went to Baltimore County, then Anne Arundel County for 11 years. This is my fourth year at Marley. I was a math resource teacher for three years. This is my first year as assistant principal.

Glen Burnie Patch: What made you decide to go into education?
Cox: My love of kids. I just knew I had to be around them. It makes it all worth it.

Glen Burnie Patch: How did you choose to teach at the elementary level?
Cox: I just like watching them grow. They grow the most in elementary school. And I find it much easier to be creative at the elementary school level. There's much more buy-in from them.

Glen Burnie Patch: Where did you go to high school? College? What degree do you hold?
Cox: I went to Easton High School in Easton, PA. I went to the University of Delaware [and received a degree in] elementary education. I also have a masters in urban and diverse learners from Goucher [College] and a second masters for administration from Goucher.

Glen Burnie Patch: When you have free time, what do you like to do?
Cox: I like to spend time with my family—I have two daughters. And I exercise a lot. I like to read and go out to dinner.
