Q&A: Marley Elementary School Teacher Kristin Morrissey

Patch caught up with math resource teacher Kristin Morrissey, working with students in grades two through five, as she took a break last December.

Glen Burnie Patch: How long have you been teaching?
Kristin Morrisey: This is my eighth year teaching and my first at Marley. All eight years have been in Anne Arundel County. (Morrissey, who was Kristin O'Leary at the time, was named for her work at . She has since gotten married.)

Glen Burnie Patch: What made you decide to become a teacher?
Morrissey: I love working with children. In college, my major was nursing ... but I didn't want to work with people who were ill. So I got my master's in education.
Glen Burnie Patch: How did you choose to teach at the elementary level?
Morrissey: I think the elementary years are the foundation to education. You see a lot of growth in students from year to year. I really loved my teachers in elementary school.

Glen Burnie Patch: Where did you go to high school? College? What degree do you hold?
Morrissey: I went to Toll Gate High School [in Rhode Island]. I went to St. Anslem College [and have a degree in] nursing. I have a master's from Roger Williams University in elementary education. And I have a reading certificate from Goucher College.
Glen Burnie Patch: When you have free time, what do you like to do?
Morrissey: I love to work out and run. I love to do anything outside. I like biking and spending time with my husband.
