Smoking Bag at BWI Deemed 'Harmless'
An investigation determined that an aerosol can had discharged in a piece of luggage Thursday afternoon, causing the appearance of smoke.
BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport officials deemed a bag to be harmless Thursday afternoon, after airline personnel reported seeing a smoking piece of luggage on the tarmac.
An investigation determined that an aerosol can in the bag had discharged and caused the appearance of smoke, said BWI spokesman Jonathan Dean.
Airline personnel saw a bag producing a vapor that gave the appearance of smoke on the aircraft ramp at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dean said.

Airport fire and rescue responded and determined the vapor was caused by the aerosol can.
"There was minimal disruption to airline service," Dean said.

Dean told WBAL that the bag was found near a Southwest plane bound for Las Vegas in the Terminal B area.
