Snyder's Willow Grove To Close In Glen Burnie After 83 Years

Diners are distraught that longtime Glen Burnie eatery Snyder's Willow Grove is closing effective January 2020 after 83 years of business.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A local landmark will be closing soon, leaving a void among diners. After 83 years of serving such delectable dishes as crab fluff, baked jumbo shrimp imperial and fried oysters, Snyder's Willow Grove is ending its long run.

The family-owned restaurant will close its doors at the end of January. The restaurant originally opened in Linthicum in 1937, and after enduring several disasters at that site, it moved to its current location in Glen Burnie in 2014.

"To all of our friends and customers, it is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye ... our lease is coming to an end and we have decided it would be best not to renew ... It has been our pleasure serving you and the community through our many years," the Snyder family posted on its Facebook page.

Darlene Heaps reminisced on the Facebook post about the fun times she had there and the delicious food she had enjoyed.

"Oh my this is so sad! From steamed crabs on the parking lot, cod fish sandwiches on saltine crackers, cream of crab soup, crab imperial, chicken in a basket every Sunday, the organ playing in the dining room, wedding receptions, reunions, anniversary parties. Our wedding reception there was the best I have ever been to," she wrote. "Thank you for so many beautiful memories of an awesome restaurant! I will never forget. Best wishes to all!"
