Westboro Protests at GBHS May Cause Traffic Problems

Westboro Baptist Church, the church group known for its anti-gay protests, is set to picket outside of Glen Burnie High School, possibly causing traffic delays.

Police issued a traffic warning in light of the announcement that Westboro Baptist Church, a group known for its anti-gay protests, would demonstrate outside on Tuesday afternoon.

The group plans to protest outside the school from 2-2:30 p.m., during the school's dismissal time.

To accommodate the protest and counterprotest launched by Glen Burnie area parents, police will close Kuethe Road from Ritchie Highway to Delaware Avenue from about 12:30-4 p.m, according to an alert from Anne Arundel County police. Foot traffic in and around the school complex and areas of the sidewalks also will be closed.

Police ask residents to avoid the area if possible to reduce delays. Residents who are directly impacted by the road closure and need to gain access to driveways are asked to bring identification and police will work to make accommodations.
