Dads are known for teaching the hard lessons to kids, preparing them for a tough world.

But sometimes, dear old dad will show us how an adult can be sensitive, or share a token of wisdom about child rearing.

For me, one of the most lasting thins my father shared was a vast and open taste in music. From the rocking jams of AC/DC to the conscientious songwriting of Joni Mitchell, me and my brothers were always learning how your favorite song or genre could change with your mood.

I hope I will pass on the gift of an open musical mind, when I have kids one day.
