Cole Will Seek Vacant Seat On Milford Planning Board

Milford Planning Board member Lena McCarthy is not running for reelection in the 2021 town election.

MILFORD, MA — A member of the Milford Cultural Council is looking to make a leap to elected office.

Milford Cultural Council Vice Chair Bryan Cole announced this week he's vying for an opening on the Planning Board. Board Chair Lena McCarthy is not running in the April 6 town election.

Cole, who has a doctorate in electrical engineering, has served on multiple other town organizations. He chairs the Milford Democratic Town Committee, is a Town Meeting member and co-chaired a group seeking to improve voter turnout in Milford.

"For me, public service is about making Milford the best place possible to live, work and raise a family," he said in a statement Tuesday. "I’ve worked with people from all walks of life in my time here, and if elected, I’ll keep fighting to make sure everyone’s voice gets heard."

McCarthy's is the only Planning Board slot up for election in 2021, and no other candidates have announced a run for the seat. Milford is in the midst of filing season for the April election. Here are the latest slate of candidates current as of Jan. 15.

Board of Selectman

Board of Health member and former town health agent Paul Mazzuchelli already announced his campaign in November. He's so far the only candidate running for the seat being vacated by William Kingkade.

Board of Assessors

Incumbent Joshua Lioce, who ran for Board of Selectmen in 2020, submitted papers on Jan. 11 to keep his seat on the Board of Assessors.

Milford School Committee

RJ Sheedy has pulled papers for School Committee. This is his second run for the school board. Current member Christopher Wilson filed to run for another term on Jan. 15.

Town Moderator

Following the unexpected death of Town Moderator Michael Noferi in the fall, the seat is uncontested for the first time in more than four decades.

Board of Library Trustees member Michelangelo Bon Tempo was the first to pull papers for the seat. Bon Tempo's library board seat expires in April, and he did not file to run for it again. Michael Aghajanian, who ran and won a seat on the school board in the 2020 election, has filed papers for the seat, Gerald Moody Sr. filed his papers on Jan. 8.

Board of Health

Incumbent Kenneth Evans will seek reelection to the board in 2021.

Milford Housing Authority

Incumbent Katherine Consigli will seek reelection to the board in 2021.

Board of Library Trustees

Scott Vecchiolla, who is not an incumbent, signed up to run on Jan. 8.

Sewer Commissioner

Milford Sewer Commissioner Rudolph Lioce III filed to run for reelection on Jan. 12.

Candidates have until Feb. 16 to submit nomination papers, and March 4 is the deadline to withdraw from the election.

Correction: An earlier version of this story confused two elected officials in Milford. Michelangelo Bon Tempo is running for moderator. His brother, Marco Bon Tempo, is a Board of Library Trustees member.
