For Earth Day, Local Brewers Push Conservation With Fermentation

Breweries in Milford, Framingham and beyond have created special beers and initiatives for the April Earth Day holiday.

MILFORD, MA — The 2021 Earth Day holiday was observed on Thursday, but that doesn't mean the celebration is over.

Several local brewers have concocted special Earth Day beers to promote conservation and environmental awareness.

In Milford, Craft Roots Brewing created the Force of Nature New England IPA. The beer was sold on Earth Day in reusable aluminum containers, and a portion of proceeds from beer sold that day went to EarthDay.org — the organization that founded the holiday in the 1970s. The beer, available at the 4 Industrial Road brewery, was also made using hops grown on a farm in Northfield.

In Framingham, Exhibit 'A' Brewing created the Right To Farm Mexican lager using maize grown in Hadley, and malt from Valley Malt, also located in Hadley. Exhibit 'A' estimates that each case of the Right To Farm beer supports 24 square feet of local farm land. The beer is available at the Framingham taproom and in stores across the state.

And in Worcester, Redemption Rock Brewing Co. will donate all tips given to servers in April to The Greater Worcester Land Trust, which protects open space around the region. Redemption Rock offers higher pay in lieu of tips.
