Fundraiser For Milford's Draper Memorial Park Hits Goal
A plan to overhaul the downtown Milford park has gained close to $90,000, according to organizers.

MILFORD, MA — A fundraiser to renovate Milford's Draper Memorial Park has exceeded a fundraising goal by thousands of dollars, according to organizers.
Last week, the Milford War Memorial Revitalization Committee (MWMRC) was up against a deadline to raise $42,500 to ensure a match from MassDevelopment. When the Oct. 15 deadline rolled around, the fundraiser had beat the goal by some $5,000.
"The success of this fundraising effort demonstrates that the revitalization of Draper Park truly resonates with all members of the community,” MWMRC Chairman Peter Scandone said. "This critical funding will guarantee we can continue moving forward with the planned repairs and enhancements, which will not only provide a much-needed facelift, but will also provide a safe and enjoyable space for the community to congregate and celebrate community occasions."

Draper is Milford's main war memorial park, featuring monuments to veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam and the Gulf War. The Draper statue is of particular importance. It was designed by Daniel Chester French, who also designed the Lincoln Memorial.
The money from the fundraiser will go toward new lighting and landscaping, and refurbishing the Draper statute. With the MassDevelopment match, the committee now has just under $90,000 for the renovations.

Due to the success of the fundraiser, the MWMRC will continue to accept donations until Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
