Memorial Day In Milford: What You Need To Know
Patch has all the details on Memorial Day Ceremonies, plus what's open and closed on the May 27th holiday.
MILFORD, MA — Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day, and the city has several events scheduled. On Monday, Milford will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade. This year, assembly will be on Veterans Memorial Drive (Rt. 109) beside the new IHop Restaurant. Assembly will be at 9:30 a.m. and step-off will be at 10 a.m.
This year's Grand Marshal will be Joe Lutfy, a Milford High grad of 1964. Shortly thereafter,
Lutfy enlisted in the Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He was stationed in Viet Nam as a Crew Chief
for the Phantom 4 Jet from 1967 to 1968. After his military service he worked for the
Massachusetts department of Transitional Assistance until his retirement. Lutfy is a member of
the local VFW, American Legion, ITAM, Masons and current Commander of the Lawrence Heron
Chapter of DAV.
The parade will march up E. Main Street to Calzone Park where a brief ceremony will take place. It will then continue up Main Street to Draper Memorial Park where a ceremony along with speakers will take place. Master of Ceremonies will be Gail (Arcudi) Reichert, a Navy Veteran.

Should there be inclement weather and the parade is cancelled, the ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m at the Italian Veterans Post on Hayward Field.
Following the parade there will be an Empty Chair ceremony hosted by the Brethren of Montgomery Lodge at 11 a.m. at the Montgomery Lodge located at 155 Main Street. The ceremony is used in Masonic lodges to pay tribute to those who did not return from the war. The event is free and open to the public, refreshments will be served at 11 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 12 p.m.

The holiday also means government offices and some businesses will be closed. Before you head out, check our list of what's open and closed on the holiday

- Buses: No fixed route or commuter shuttle service
- Supermarkets: Open
- Convenience stores: Open
- Bars: Open
- Banks: Closed
- Municipal Offices: Closed

- Schools: Closed
- Mail: Express delivery only
- Trash/recycling collection: Delayed one day. Monday pickup on Tuesday, Tuesday pickup on Wednesday, etc., ending with Friday pickup on Saturday.
