Milford Disc Golf Course May Land Near Louisa Lake
Milford parks officials and the Conservation Commission have been working on bringing a disc golf course to town for more than a year.

MILFORD, MA — A new recreation attraction may be coming to Milford. Town parks officials have proposed building a disc golf course on a parcel of land east of Louisa Lake.
Parks and Recreation Administrator Jim Asam said the idea was first raised in 2016, but work on plans for course didn't get into gear until the last year. Although the course is still just a proposal, the nine-hole course could be completed before the end of this summer with Conservation Commission approval, Asam said.
The course would be built across about 12 acres east of the lake and the Upper Charles Trail and north of Dilla Street on a mostly empty wooded parcel. The land, known as the Consigli property, has a few informal walking trails, which would still be open to non-disc golf players, Asam said. The Conservation Commission has final say over what happens with the property.

"This will improve the property and clean it up; it'll be nicer that what it is," he said.
Asam brought the proposal to the Select Board on Monday and received a positive response. The project has also been supported by the Milford Community School Use Program and the Milford Youth Center.

The Conservation Commission heard an overview of the proposal at its March 17 meeting. Some members expressed concern about the number of trees that might need to be removed, and about how close the course would be to homes along Quinshipaug Road.
A disc golf course would be relatively unique for the area. The closest course is in Franklin at Dacey Fields, and there are courses farther away at the Buffumville Dam in Oxford, and at Newton Hill in Worcester.
The Conservation Commission is set to discuss the disc golf proposal again at the May 19 meeting.
