Milford To Pursue Adding Public Art Installations
There are few public art installations in Milford, but a committee formed this week is looking to add more.

MILFORD, MA — Apart from a few paintings in public buildings, the Dewey the dog sculpture at the library, and the bronze Gen. William F. Draper statue, there aren't many public art pieces around Milford.
A new group formed this week hopes to change that.
The Board of Selectmen on Monday approved the creation of a new committee headed by the Milford Cultural Council that will create a policy for bringing public art to town.

According to Geri Eddins, head of the Milford Cultural Council, the new committee will work on bringing temporary and permanent art to public spaces. The seven-member committee includes three local professional artists, two members of the cultural council, Selectman Michael Walsh, and a member of the Planning Board.
During her presentation on Monday night, Eddins showed examples of public art in other towns — like Natick's "Tunnel of Love". She also highlighted more permanent works, like murals painted in Springfield.

There's already one piece of new public art coming to Milford. The cultural council is overseeing a mural to be painted on the side of a building at Calzone Park. Work may begin as soon as next spring.
