MILFORD, MA — The Milford School Committee is planning a special meeting this week to discuss the district's 2020-21 back-to-school plan.

Milford Superintendent Kevin McIntyre sent a letter to parents on Thursday saying that the district would likely begin the school under a hybrid learning model, where students attend a mix of in-person and remote classes.

"Students will attend school in-person for two days per week, participate in teacher-led remote learning one day per week, and two days of independent remote learning," McIntyre wrote. "This model may shift to remote learning or more in-person learning over the course of the year based on public health data or shifts in guidelines from the state."

However, the district is asking all parents to select one of two options for a return to school: fully remote learning, or the hybrid model.

The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) asked every district in the state to prepare three plans for the upcoming school year: fully remote, hybrid, and fully in-person classes. Those plans were due to DESE on July 31.

Many local districts are opting for the hybrid model. Last week, Framingham school officials elected to begin the school year fully remote with a plan to switch to a hybrid model by early November, depending on coronavirus trends.

The special Milford School Committee meeting is set for Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at Milford High School.
