Milford TV Expands Massively With Studio B: Come See It

What once was a pie-in-the-sky joke became a reality. Milford TV's executive director discusses the expansion of the cable station.

MILFORD, MA—It was a joke around the office at first, but when the dry cleaning company next door in the plaza moved out, Milford TV started to toy with the idea of expanding and building a "Studio B." The joke became a reality, and MilfordTV has expanded. The local TV channel has gotten real big and is celebrating with the community in a big way.

"Milford TV has always provided a space for creative and influential people in the Milford area to express themselves and inform others in the community," said Rob O'Keefe, executive director of Milford TV. "We first opened our doors in 2013 as a nonprofit, taking the reigns of the Public Access duties from the old Comcast studio on Central street. Since then, we have been filling out the existing studio space with new equipment, editing computers, and staff members - leaving us feeling a bit cramped and our members' demanding more studio time."

Construction was completed in the fall and equipment installed recently. The new space features a custom built set, screening room, 2 new edit suites, and much more, and they'd like to share it with the public.

Construction began in the summer, with studio equipment, lighting, furniture and more added throughout the fall until now. The new space features a custom-designed set, a screening room to be used for member training and screening of members' productions, two new edit suites, more art gallery space, a member "Wall of Fame" mural, and a few more fun additions.

Milford TV programming is created by its staff of five and includes coverage of local high school sports, town government meetings, school events, a weekly news show and much more. The rest of Milford TV programming is produced by local residents who become members who are then trained by the staff, and then gather their own volunteer crew of members to produce whatever media production strikes their fancy; whether that be a TV series, special event, music event, or short film/movie.

"Milford TV's strength lies in its connection to the community and the many volunteers, interns, and Members that get together with the goal of sharing events and information with the local community," said O'Keefe. "We also feature an art gallery from the Blackstone Valley Art Association and other local artists. Milford TV is not your average public access television studio. We go above and beyond what is expected and will continue to do so in the future. Now that we are through our 'growing pains,' we plan on focusing on bringing even more content to the community and strive to become the premiere Community Media Studio in the MetroWest area."
