New Milford Homeless Shelters Won't Open For Cold Snap
Temperatures could drop to -1 in Milford with wind chill on Wednesday, but new winter weather shelters are still getting off the ground.

MILFORD, MA — Milford town officials and local churches are working to open three temporary homeless shelters this winter, but the facilities will not be open in time for a stretch of severe cold — and some snow — coming to the area this week.
Disability Commission member Dino DeBartolomeis said on Tuesday that the shelters are still in the works.
"No firm date has been established for the opening of the shelters. We want to make sure that we cover all aspects before any opening," he said via email.

Trinity Church, The Way, and St. Mary's are all planning to open shelters this winter, as Patch reported in October. The shelters would open at those locations when the temperature drops below or feels like freezing. The town health, building, and fire departments are overseeing the process of opening the shelters.
The three shelters are the first in the town since 2007, when the Winter Haven shelter closed.

The winter's first cold snap will hit the Milford area on Tuesday afternoon. There's a slight chance of snow, but temperatures are set to drop into the teens by Tuesday night. Temperatures could drop below zero by Wednesday morning due to wind chill, according to the National Weather Service.
