Obituaries: Wayne Hontz, Gregory Schmall, Mary Castagnaro, Jean Pidgeon, Edward Giebutowski, Stephen Davis

These residents of Holliston, Hopkinton and Milford died in recent days.

Wayne A. Hontz, 50, of Milford, died May 5 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Cathy T. (Kozlowski) Hontz.

A resident of Milford for 25 years, he had previously lived in Bellingham and New Bedford. Wayne possessed a keen sense of humor and loved to write-especially poetry. He was a loving father and husband.

Gregory J. Schmall, 24, of Milford and formerly of Holliston, died May 3. Born in Newton, he was the son of Michele M. (Breton) Schmall of Walpole and Stephen A. Schmall of East Falmouth. A 2006 Holliston High School graduate, Gregory was a Navy Veteran and a member of the American Legion. He also worked as a Holliston Auxiliary Police Officer.

Mary C. (Alphonse) Castagnaro, 84, of Milford died April 29, at the Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of Raymond Castagnaro who died in 1997. She was born in Milford, daughter of the late Vincent and Aurora (Gomes) Alphonse and was a lifelong Milford resident and was educated in the Milford schools. Mrs. Castagnaro retired in 1997 from the Milford Hospital where she was employed in housekeeping for 16 years. She had also worked at the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford, and a member of the Sacred Heart Womens Club.

Jean Ann Pidgeon, 54, of Hopkinton and formerly of Uniondale, NY, died on April 29 after a brave fight with cancer. Jean was a life-long teacher of infant, toddler, and pre-school children most recently at the Brookline Infant Toddler Center in Newton, MA. She was a graduate of The State University of New York at Plattsburgh and Uniondale High School.

Edward J. Giebutowski, 77, of Holliston, died April 25, at the Carlyle House in Framingham. Born in Vermont, he was the son of the late Genevieve (Kamuda) and Theodore Giebutowski. He was the husband of Dorothy (Stomper) Giebutowski of Holliston. An Air Force Veteran, Edward worked as an aeronautical engineer at the Natick Labs for many years and was also a member of the A.I.A.A. Scouting had also been a part of his life.

Stephen Oliver Meighen Davis, 70, formerly of Holliston, died April 15 from complications with pneumonia. Born in New York City on April 19, 1942, Mr. Davis graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania and received a Master’s Degree in electrical engineering from NYU. 
Mr. Davis, a professional engineer, was a pioneer in supervisory control and data acquisition systems that operated in real time. Mr. Davis founded two software companies in the 1970’s Real Time Engineering, Inc. that was based in Holliston and Real Time Software Systems based in New Hampshire.
