Police Log: Gun-Carrying Ex-Girlfriend, Dumpster Lurker

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. All arrests are reported. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Friday, May 31

3:22 p.m.: A woman went to the Police Department to report her purse was stolen from Panera Bread. Police filed a report.

3:38 p.m.: A caller from Shadowbrook Condominiums reported that a tall, skinny guy was watching a group of kids at the bus stop. He was tall, dark-skinned with dark hair and was texting on his cell phone. The caller was advised to call if he sees him again.

8:56 p.m.: A caller from Union Street said her stepdaughter's boyfriend was driving by her house and making verbal threats. An emergency restraining order was granted and the boyfriend was served via telephone.

9:08 p.m.: A caller reported he was robbed near McDonald's on South Main Street. He said he was on his way back to get his money and if there was not an officer there he would be causing a scene. He told police he'd be waiting in the lot in a black Honda. Police responded and all parties were spoken to.

10:06 p.m.: A caller from Rolling Green Drive reported he believed his ex-girlfriend, who is staying with him, has stolen his 2002 Crown Victoria. He said she had a firearm in the trunk. The woman in question was at Milford Regional Medical Center getting treatment for assault. Police went there and arrested her. Mary Nmi Speaks, 54, of 242 Deltona, Goodridge Court, Florida, was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm without an FID card, improperly storing a firearm, possession of ammunition, defacing a firearm serial number, using a motor vehicle without authority, domestic assault and battery, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

11:57 p.m.: A man from Beaver Street reported someone was going to call the police on him, but that he was home and was OK. He called back a second time and said his house was being surrounded. Police could not make out much of what he was saying before he hung up. They responded to his home; all was OK.

Saturday, June 1

12:08 a.m.: Two callers from West Street reported a four-wheeler was riding up and down the street. Police responded and the vehicle was gone upon arrival.

10:02 a.m.: A person went to the Police Department reporting that a man on Dilla Street was cutting grass and blowing objects into the road. The person said he asked the grass-mower to stop and he made a vulgar gesture.

1:46 p.m.: A resident went to the Police Department to report an assault that happened well over a year ago while he was driving.

5:45 p.m.: A caller from South Central Street reported two men were going door-to-door selling magazines; she thought it was suspicious. Police spoke to the men, who were advised and were leaving the area.

6:16 p.m.: Police received calls about a man who was lying on the ground on Purchase Street. One caller thought the man had been hit by a car. Police determined that a vehicle was not involved; rather, the man tripped and struck his head on the curb. He was taken to the hospital.

6:46 p.m.: Police and the Fire Department responded to a two-car crash at Silver Hill Road and Congress Street. Both vehicles were towed and one person was taken to the hospital.

7:25 p.m.: A caller reported she was having a problem with another tenant on Exchange Street. He allegedly threatened to throw her off the porch. She said he had gone back inside since making that statement. Police spoke to both parties and determined no threats had been made.

8:45 p.m.: A caller reported her niece was attacked by a dog while delivering pizza to 56 Dilla St. The niece went to the emergency room. Police spoke to the dog owner, who brought the dog inside. The homeowner said there had been previous incidents with the dog.

9 p.m.: A caller from La Quinta Inn reported they had been having problems with a man who appeared to be homeless and was staying next to their Dumpster. Police had dealt with the man before. They responded and arrested Ralph Barreira, 56, of 40419 Otis Allen Rd., Zephyr Hills, FL, charging him with trespassing.

9:15 p.m.: A Nolan Avenue resident called police to report fireworks were being set off and loud music was coming from a graduation party.
