Raccoon Invades Milford Woman's Home — Twice

The crepuscular critter appeared in the woman's home during feeding hours on Thursday, prompting 911 calls.

MILFORD, MA — A squirrelly raccoon invaded a Milford woman's home twice in the same day on Thursday, prompting her to call police both times.

The first incident happened at around 5 a.m. when the Amherst Drive resident called police to report that the raccoon was in her bathroom. But the omnivorous critter left, and so police didn't respond.

But the nocturnal creature — or perhaps one of his close friends — returned around sunset.

The woman called police around 9 p.m. to report that the raccoon was "running around her house." Three Milford officers responded within minutes, but they left after about 15 minutes — no word on whether they were able to capture the raccoon, according to the police log.

Raccoons aren't generally dangerous, although they are the primary carrier or rabies in Massachusetts, according to the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. Raccoons are most active at dawn and dusk — as the Amherst Drive woman found out — and the best way to keep them off your property is to secure potential food sources, like garbage and pet food.
