Approaching Storms Prompt Hazardous Weather Outlook For NJ
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued Monday with predictions including 21 mph winds and a possible tornado. Here's what to expect.
NEW JERSEY - Severe weather is possible to hit the state on Monday, with high levels of humidity, extreme temperatures and wind gusts as high as 21 mph expected later in the day. A tornado is even possible.
The National Weather Service noted Monday morning that hail, excessive rainfall and excessive heat is possible in the northern and eastern portions of New Jersey through the evening.
“A hot and humid day is in store to officially start summer, with portions of the area now under a Heat Advisory for heat indices in the upper 90s to near 100 this afternoon,” the NWS tweeted on Monday. “There's also a chance for severe storms across parts of the area this evening.”

Intervals of clouds and sunshine are predicted throughout the day, according to AccuWeather. As the day progresses, cloud coverage will increase, humidity levels will rise and wind gusts will pick up. Temperatures will plummet from the day’s high of 91 to a low of around 70.
The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook on Monday morning throughout the state, saying that stronger thunderstorms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts through Tuesday evening.

All 21 New Jersey counties were named in the hazardous outlook. The southeastern New York counties of Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester were also included, as well as eastern areas of Pennsylvania and parts of Maryland and Delaware.
Per the National Weather Service, a heat advisory has also been issued from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Camden, Gloucester, Mercer and northwestern Burlington counties.
The gloomy weather is expected to dissipate by Wednesday, which will see lower humidity levels, sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s.
Here is the forecast:
Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 90. South wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
Monday night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light southwest after midnight.
Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 54. Northwest wind around 7 mph.
