Hazlet Police Warn Drivers to Drive Sober Through the New Year
The program officially begins Dec. 6, 2013 and runs through Jan. 2

Hazlet Police are warning residents to drive sober through the holidays, with the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
The program officially begins Dec. 6, 2013 and runs through Jan. 2. Hazlet Police will set up sobriety checkpoints and extra patrols in the area.  Â
Last year in New Jersey, 19% of all motor vehicle fatalities were alcohol-related. Nationally, during the combined months of December in 2007-2011, there were 4,169 people killed in drunk driving crashes.
Law enforcement agencies participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over 20130Â Year End Holiday Statewide Crackdown offer the following advice:
• Take mass transit, a taxicab, or ask a sober friend to drive you home.Â
• Spend the night where the activity is held.
• If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement. Your actionsÂ
may save someone’s life, and inaction could cost a life.Â
• Always buckle-up, every ride. It’s your best defense against an impaired driver.Â
• If you are intoxicated and traveling on foot, the safest way to get home is to take aÂ
cab or have a sober friend or family member drive or escort you to your doorstep.
• Be responsible. If someone you know is drinking, do not let that person getÂ
behind the wheel.
