Hazlet Swim Club Reopening Delayed To July 11
With tropical storm warnings in effect on July 10, officials postponed the highly anticipated opening to July 11.

HAZLET, NJ – In preparation for heavy rain, flooding and even possible tornadoes, Hazlet Township took several precautions Friday morning to ensure the safety of its residents. Tropical Storm Fay, noted as the first storm of its kind since 2012’s superstorm Sandy, brought 60-mph winds to the state on July 10. The Hazlet Swim & Tennis Club, which was slated to open today, is now closed due to the predicted weather. Members will now have to wait for Saturday to get their first swim of the season.
“We all look forward to a sunny day tomorrow at the pool for our opening day,” wrote the township on Twitter.

Nearby Keansburg Amusement Park has also closed its doors for the day.

A flash flood warning was posted statewide on Friday as rain is slated to become heavier around midday. According to the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, heavy rains may result in localized flooding in urban areas, low-lying landscapes and areas with poor drainage. Strong winds may cause power outages and minor tree damage.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for the storm by securing outdoor items that may be susceptible to wind gusts (such as outdoor furniture), monitoring local weather forecasts for updates and having a family evacuation plan ready to go.
