Hazlet's Fourth Street To Close In Feb. For Bridge Reconstruction

HAZLET, NJ - Attention motorists: Fourth Street will be closed to vehicular traffic next month due to a bridge reconstruction project, according to the Hazlet Township Police Department.

On or about Feb. 8, Fourth Street in Hazlet will be closed due to reconstruction of the bridge over the Waackaack Creek. The bridge serves as a link between Hazlet and West Keansburg.

“The Hazlet Township Police Department is aware this may cause traffic issues such as speeding. We will be working on keeping the detour route safe for all motorists and residents,” the department wrote in a statement on Wednesday.

According to police, the roadway will completely shut down to all traffic. Signage will be posted for a detour around the area.

Last year, the Monmouth County commissioners announced that Montclair-based company Marbro, Inc. was chosen from nine bidders to do the work for $2,791,117.

The Fourth Street Bridge was originally constructed in 1945 by Freibott Brothers and underwent construction in 1966.

Another bridge connecting the two Raritan Bay municipalities, the Laurel Avenue Hazlet-Keansburg Bridge, previously underwent a months-long repaving project beginning in September 2019.
