Holmdel Police Charge Pair With Shoplifting, Heroin Possession

Two Middletown residents shoplifted from a Holmdel store, then fled, and when they were stopped by police, officers found heroin, authorities said.
One of the defendants ran from police when officers pulled the pair over in Halzet, but police chased him and took him into custody, authorities said.

Around 1:55 p.m. Monday, a worker from the Kohl’s store called police to report that a man had shoplifted, then fled in a blue Hyundai that was headed toward Route 35.
Officer Christopher Cherney and Sgt. Vincent Imperato spotted the vehicle and stopped it on Croman Court in Hazlet.

The driver pulled over, but then a passenger, Anthany Grant, 28, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, got out of the vehicle and ran away, heading toward a nearby backyard.
Lt. Michael Pigott and Cherney ran after him and caught him on Poole Avenue. As he was being taken into custody, Grant dropped multiple bags of heroin and hypodermic syringes on the ground.
The driver, Marissa Grant, 26, of Port Monmouth, was also arrested. She was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, and Shoplifting. She was also issued summonses, charging her with motor vehicle offenses.
Anthany Grant was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction, and Shoplifting.
The vehicle was impounded. The stolen goods were recovered and returned to Kohl’s.
Both defendants were sent to the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township. Bail was set at $10,000 for Marissa Grant and $15,000 for Anthany Grant.
