Holmdel Police Save Man In Throes Of Heroin Overdose

Holmdel police responded to a call of a possible overdose and found a 26-year-old Belford section man unconscious in Holmdel Commons.

HOLMDEL, NJ - Holmdel Police Officers Patrick Weimer and David D’Arcy were dispatched to the parking lot of the Best Market grocery store in the Holmdel Commons on a report of a drug overdose. Officers found a 26-year-old Belford man suffering from an apparent heroin overdose.

The man - whom police did not identify - was lying in the parking lot alongside a vehicle, was unconscious, had a weak pulse and difficulty breathing police said. An off-duty nurse from Bayshore Medical Center that was in the shopping center also was tending to the man.

But the real hero of the call was nasal Narcan which Weimer administered to the victim whose condition improved. He was taken to Bayshore Medical Center by the Holmdel First Aid Squad.

A search of the vehicle that the man had been riding in resulted in officers locating and seizing one dozen baggies containing suspected heroin and one hypodermic needle.

No criminal charges were filed in accordance with New Jersey’s Overdose Prevention Act.
