Holmdel Racecar Driver Takes Second at Wall Stadium

Andrew Krause of Holmdel took second in the 40-lap modified car race.

A Holmdel racecar driver finished second at the Wall Township Speedway, beat only by a Howell driver during the Memorial Day Weekend race.

Jason Treat, of Jackson, was Saturday night's winner in the Modified division, leading the entire 40-lap race. Treat was chased across the line by Andrew Krause, of Holmdel, Freehold’s Chas Okerson, Shawna Ingraham, of Brick, and Steven Reed of Freehold, the release said.

The Route 34 stadium was quieted by rain for two consecutive weeks. Drizzle on Saturday threatened a third cancelation, but races began following a delay in the regular start time.

Robert French on Saturday raced to his second win of the year in the 25-lap race in the Legend Cars division, taking the lead from Trevor Alspach of Willingboro late in the contest. Derek Hopkinson of Toms River, Edison’s Brian Spencer and Zack Alspach of Willingboro wrapped up the top five, according to a speedway release.

“The car was great early in the race, but the set up went away near the end,” Treat said in the release. “I have to thank Andrew (Krause) for driving me like a gentleman. I knew it was going to be checker or the wrecker tonight.”
