It's Time to End the Politics of Hate

A political opponent and his supporters attack candidate's family to try to win an election.

How did we get here? How did we get comfortable with people spreading vitriol, anger, hate … all in the name of politics? When did this become ok?

The answer, of course, is: it’s not ok.

But, as Holmdel enters another election cycle, tactics that have become all-too-familiar to our small town have reared their heads once again. Words like ‘corrupt’ are carelessly thrown around – and baseless accusations are made solely for the hope of gaining your vote. People are playing politics.

Families are attacked. FAMILIES. Grandparents, husbands, wives, sons, and daughters.

Once upon a time, candidates would at least know families are off limits. But, my friends and neighbors, here we are.

As the June 8th primary looms, we’re faced with a decision. Do we give in to hate? Do we allow it to determine our vote? Or do we look to the light and choose a candidate who is forthright, dedicated, and committed to service?

The great news is: you have a choice. You can choose to rise up and not be consumed by the darkness.

I stand here now – more than ever – committed to serving you. Committed to providing services to our seniors, investing in our children, stopping over-development, and readying the fight to keep our taxes down.

Your other choice – attacks families.

He and his supporters sit behind a keyboard and make false claims, cast aspersions, and try to malign a family. They do it from the comfort of their homes, behind a screen – hidden from view.

Back in the day, we called someone like that a “telephone tough guy”.

Frankly, I think it’s just cowardice.

It takes fortitude to lead. It takes strength to have conviction. It takes character to have a vision and be committed to seeing it through.

My opponent believes leadership is borne of hatred and lies. He thinks that if he can make you HATE enough, you’ll vote for him. Not because he has a vision, but because you’ll hate so much, you’ll forget he doesn’t have much of one at all.

This country is founded upon the belief that we can be a powerful light among the darkness. From Paul Revere’s lantern to our hope of being a “shining city on a hill”. The vision of a better tomorrow is what keeps us moving forward – it’s what drives us to aspire for more, for better.

Light defeats darkness. Good defeats evil. Love conquers hate.

I love this town and everything we can do together.

And I am ready to use our collective light to drive out this darkness once and for all.

A vote for Rocco Impreveduto is a vote for vision, for integrity, for service … and most importantly, it’s a rejection of the politics of hate.

I humbly ask for your vote in the Republican Primary this June 8th on Column 3 of your ballot.
