'Jay And Silent Bob’ To Appear At Holmdel’s Bell Works Next Week
Kevin Smith's film universe is taking over Monmouth with the opening of the Mooby's burger pop-up in Red Bank and an appearance in Holmdel.

HOLMDEL, NJ – While Jay and Silent Bob made a name for themselves in Los Angeles in “Lay and Silent Bob Reboot”, the dynamic duo are returning to the Garden State for a special appearance next Friday.
Kevin Smith, 50, who plays one half of the ‘Jay and Silent Bob’ pair since his debut film Clerks in 1994, will be transforming local landmarks into locations straight out of his filmography.
On Friday, Sept. 18, Smith will be opening a limited-time only pop-up shop at Gianni’s Pizzeria in Red Bank. For one week, Gianni’s will be rebranded as Mooby’s, a fictional burger joint immortalized in several of Smith's films. According to a recent social media post, the star will be at the store’s grand opening and may make guest appearances throughout the weekend. The fictional restaurant will also be partnering with local Red Bank vendors to ensure the full Mooby's experience: Red Tank Brewery serves as one area partner offering a signature Mooby's brew. More vendors will be announced shortly, according to a news release.
Friday will also see the Red Bank native (who was raised in Highlands) with collaborator Jay Mewes celebrating the 10th anniversary of their podcast “Jay & Silent Bob Get Old” at Holmdel’s Bell Works drive-in theater. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets will run fans $100 per vehicle.

Many of Smith’s films feature Monmouth County locations, including the Quick Stop convenience store in Leonardo (which largely served as the set for his debut film) as well as St. James Catholic Church in Red Bank and neighboring Jack’s Music Shoppe, which were featured in his films Dogma and Chasing Amy, respectively.
Smith also owns and operates the comic store Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank. The shop will feature Mooby’s merchandise at the pop-up dive next week.
Smith announced in 2019 that he would be opening a theater in Leonardo to record podcasts in front of a live audience.
