'Loving' Mother, Wife Dies at 59

Kowen Chang Tam of Holmdel, a loving mother, wife and sister, was known for her selflessness in all aspects of her life. Like her passion for gardening, she always wanted to cultivate and grow her mind. She was also full of energy and will forever be known for her outgoing and bright personality, which always drew out the best in people. 

Since childhood, she was known for excelling in everything from drawing and singing to athletics. Kowen moved to the States after graduating from Taiwan University in 1975 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she obtained Master degrees in Agriculture Economics and Computer Science. 

In 1982, she met her husband of 31 years, Shawa, in Minneapolis.  Soon after, they moved and started a family in Colorado.

Her generosity and tireless efforts have significantly impacted her local community. She had a solution to everything and did not hesitate to help her friends and family in need.  

At the end of the day she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, whether it was tending to her orchids, making banana bread, practicing taichi, or playing with the housecat.

She was a caring mom and beautiful wife who was full of energy and always had a positive attitude towards life. In death she was finally able to have a “peaceful moment” after leading such an eventful and fulfilling life.

She is predeceased by her father Chen-Yen. Kowen is the beloved wife of Shawa. The loving daughter of Chu-Fen. Kowen was also the devoted mother of Helen, Aaron, and Sharon. Also being the cherished sister of Ker-Ming, Ker-Chi, Ker-Chin, Ke-Ning, Kate-Chen, and Cathy-Lin.

Kowen will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735- Rt 35 Middletown on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. Prayer service will take place at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Holmdel Cemetery.
