Prep The Popcorn: Drive-In Theater Comes To Bell Works

The pop-up cinema will kickoff with a screening of "2001: A Space Odyssey". Did your favorite flick make the cut?

HOLMDEL, NJ – Get the popcorn ready: the big screen is about to come to Bell Works in Holmdel. Starting July 24, the Crawfords Corner Road entertainment hub will host drive-in movie nights in the Red Lot four days a week.

The new drive-in theater will be open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with a new film to be screened each night. A $25 entrance fee will be charged for every vehicle in the lot and can be purchased here. Films will begin promptly at 8:30 p.m. Movie audio will be available on the Cinema Pop-Ups phone application and FM radio.

The event series comes in partnership with Cinema Pop Ups, a drive-in theater concept aimed at creating a safe moviegoing atmosphere amid the coronavirus pandemic. Social distancing protocol will be practiced, with cars to be spaced at least eight feet apart. Tailgating equipment (tents, grills, fire pits) will not be permitted, and tickets will be collected via handsfree scanning system.

Drive-in classics and Hollywood blockbusters alike will be screened at the outdoor theater, with offerings such as "Space Jam" (1996) and "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone" (2001). Specialty menus will also be available from a slew of participating restaurants in the Bell Works complex.

The new pop-up theater comes at a time when scores of theaters around the country are moving to the socially distant entertainment initiative. In recent months, scores of new drive-in theaters have popped up across the country, with New Jersey's Freehold and Millburn also recently unveiling their own drive-in plans.
