UPDATE: Dead Animals Found on Keansburg Beach
The killings are being investigated as animal cruelty, although they may be the result of ritual sacrifices.

UPDATE Friday, August 16: Chief Victor "Buddy" Amato told Patch today that location of the animal remains was near the pier in Keansburg, which is off Beachway -- not in the nearby Hazlet community of West Keansburg, as originally published in the local newspaper.Â
He said he's getting a lot of calls. "We've gotten a lot of leads, but unfortunately none of them directly related to this," said Amato. "But we are following up on all of them," he said.Â

A small altar, which Chief Humane Law Enforcement Officer Victor Amato of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says is part of a Santeria ritual, was also located in the same vicinity, the Asbury Park Press said.
