Smoke could be smelled as far north as Middletown and Hazlet Friday morning, coming from a large forest fire burning in Burlington County.
The wildfire is in the 464-acre Bass River State Forest. The blaze first broke out at 5 p.m. Thursday. As of 10 a.m. Friday, the fire is 60 percent under control and isn't expected to get any bigger, Michael Achey, warden of the New Jersey Forest Fire Service’s central region, told the Asbury Park Press.
The wildfire is in a remote location and there is little risk to buildings or homes, he said.
