St. Finbar Roman Catholic Church Volunteer Dies at 88

She also worked for "Love Builds" caring for disabled children.

Rose Zappulla, 88, of Hazlet, New Jersey, was called to the Kingdom of God to meet her beloved husband of 69 years, Paul Zappulla, on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Willows in Holmdel, New Jersey.

She was born Rose Albi on May 16, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up and spent most of her life. Rose met and married her beloved husband, Paul, in St. Finbar Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York. While raising seven children, she worked tirelessly volunteering doing God's work in St. Finbar. Rose cooked for the nuns and priests, worked for "Love Builds" caring for disabled children, made hosts for communion and was a Eucharistic minister. Rose was a promoter for the miraculous medal and a member of the Marion rosary and Sacred Heart league. She was awarded woman of the year for all her dedicated work. Rose was a godly woman who was rewarded with all her "angels" to care for her at the Willows in Holmdel, New Jersey.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gregory and Concetta (Palumbo) Albi, her son, Clayton A. Zappulla, her brothers and sisters, Angie, Clayton, Frank, Jimmy, Helen and Josephine and her beloved husband, Paul Zappulla. Rose is survived by her loving children, Vincent Zappulla and his wife Rosanne of Colts Neck, New Jersey, Helen Schiavo and her husband Stephen of Hazlet, New Jersey, Connie Reynolds and her husband Billy of Brooklyn, New York, Paul Peter Zappulla and his wife Laurie, Rosemary Zappulla of California and Diane Zappulla of California, her dear brother Thomas Albi and his wife Marie of Brooklyn, New York, along with six cherished grandchildren and five adored great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Services were held at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Finbar Roman Catholic Church, 138 Bay 20th Street, Brooklyn, New York followed by internment at the Cemetery of the Resurrection, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10309.
