Zhang, Briamonte Lead Holmdel BOE Race: Unofficial Results

HOLMDEL, NJ - Zhenling "Linda" Zhang and Eileen Briamonte are leading in the Holmdel Board of Education race, according to unofficial results from the Monmouth County Clerk's Office.

Four candidates are vying for three seats this year: Irfan Lateef, Zhenling "Linda" Zhang and current board members Peter Reddy and Eileen Briamonte.

Zhang garnered the most votes so far, followed by Briamonte, Reddy and Lateef.

7:15 p.m., Nov. 9 vote count:

ZHENLING "LINDA" ZHANG: 28.79%, 6,218 votes

EILEEN BRIAMONTE: 25.94%, 5,603 votes

PETER REDDY: 23.95%, 5,173 votes

IRFAN LATEEF: 21.06%, 4,549 votes

Briamonte was first appointed to the Holmdel Board of Education in 2016 for a one year term. She was re-elected in 2017 for a three-year term. She has been a Holmdel resident for 20 years alongside her husband Chris. The pair have two daughters at Holmdel High School.

Briamonte holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Villanova University. She has been a private tutor for SSAT, SAT and ACT for 12 years, with prior experience as a computer analyst.

"We came to Holmdel because we had multiple relatives raising families here and we saw how great those kids were growing up," Briamonte told Patch. "We knew that Holmdel Schools provided a foundation for their successes."

Lateef is a 20-year resident of the township and is the father of four children, two of which currently attend Holmdel High School. He has worked in the telecommunications industry for 25 years and is currently employed with a networking startup.

Reddy is an 11-year resident of Holmdel and has two sons who attend the school district. He is seeking a third term on the board of education. Reddy works at Honeywell International and has designed energy-saving initiatives for schools for the last 17 years.

Zhang, a 10-year resident of Holmdel, is the mother of two Holmdel High School students. She works at Microsoft.

Since the change to this year's election was announced by Gov. Phil Murphy because of the coronavirus, there have been many questions about how the process will work.

Every the ballot sent through the mail had to be postmarked by Nov. 3. It must be received by your county's election boards by 8 p.m. on Nov. 10.

"Every vote should be safe. Every vote should be secure. Every vote should be counted," Murphy said of the process.
