5 Monmouth Businesses Cited For COVID-19 Violations

Of 55 inspections on Thursday, businesses in Howell, Freehold and Middletown were charged with pandemic restriction violations.

MONMOUTH COUNTY — Five Monmouth County businesses have been cited for violations of Gov. Phil Murphy's coronavirus pandemic restrictions following a series of inspections in the county on Thursday, authorities said.

The five businesses — Howell Lanes and The Cabin in Howell, Tommy's Tavern & Tap in Freehold, Gabriella's Italian Steakhouse and Nicholas Barrel & Roost in Middletown — all received citations following inspections by the state's Alcoholic Beverage Control division, said Col. Patrick Callahan, superintendent of the New Jersey State Police.

Callahan, speaking at Murphy's Friday coronavirus briefing, did not give details of the citations. He said 55 establishments in Monmouth County were inspected Thursday.

Nicholas Barrel & Roost was accused in August of violating the rules on indoor dining while Murphy was eating outside the restaurant. Middletown officials said they had received numerous complaints in the summer. It is unclear whether the restaurant was issued a summons during the summer.

This article has been updated to correct the town for Gabriella's to Middletown.
