Crash In Howell Closes Route 33 In Both Directions

A crash closed a major highway in Monmouth County.

HOWELL, NJ - Route 33 in Monmouth County was closed in both directions due to a motor vehicle crash involving a utility pole, authorities said Friday.

All lanes on Route 33 were closed at Colts Neck Road in Howell as of 12:30 p.m., according to a New Jersey Department of Transportation statement.

Drivers were asked to follow detours or plan an alternate route.

Crews are currently at the scene making repairs, according to Howell police.

"Detours are in place but it is recommended to avoid the area for the next few hours," the police department wrote in a Facebook post. "Traffic is awful throughout that entire area including Farmingdale Boro."

As of 1:47 p.m., all lanes have been reopened.
