Eleanor N. Ganslen, 91, Former Howell Substitute Teacher

Mrs. Ganslen lived in Farmingdale for 71 years, according to family.

FARMINGDALE, NJ — Eleanor N. Ganslen, a 71-year resident of Farmingdale and former substitute teacher in Howell, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2017, according to her obituary from Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home. She was 91.

Mrs. Ganslen was an impassioned educator as a substitute teacher in the Howell Township Public School System for more than 25 years. Her zealousness towards learning was passed down to all of her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Ganslen was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 3, 1926, shortly after her parents Mary and John Tosello emigrated from Treviso, Italy. Her children were the proud beneficiaries of her Italian cultural heritage, particularly its cuisine, which she mastered for everyone’s pleasure!

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Egidio Tosello of Park Forest, Illinois; her husband of 69 years, Raymond H. Ganslen (1924-2014) of Farmingdale; and her son, Thomas Ganslen (1949-2005).

Mrs. Ganslen is survived by her sons, Stephen Ganslen of Farmingdale, and Kenneth Ganslen of Hinton, West Virginia; her daughters, Lora Murphy and her husband, Richard of Walkersville, Maryland, and Lisa Recupero and her husband Darren of Summit, NJ; three grandchildren, Jennifer and husband William Burns IV of Ramsey; Justin Recupero, and Ryan Recupero of Summit; two great-granddaughters, Josephine Burns and Shannon Burns; and one great-grandson, William Burns V.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Ganslen’s memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Howell.
