Howell Couple Hit, Woman Killed In Christmas Eve Car Crash
Phyllis Shtab, 81, succumbed to her injuries after she was involved in a hit-and-run in Jackson Township.
HOWELL, NJ - An 81-year-old Howell Township resident died from her injuries this week after her vehicle collided with another in Jackson Township, authorities said.
On Dec. 24 at approximately 6 p.m., officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a reported motor vehicle crash with “serious injuries” in the area of Cedar Swamp Road and I-195.
The collision saw Norman Shtab, 83, of Howell, exiting I-195 at Exit 21 in a 2010 Mercedes Benz. As Schab made a left-hand turn onto Cedar Swamp Road, his vehicle collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.

The driver of the Silverado fled on foot, according to local authorities. A passenger in the Silverado was transported and released from Jersey Shore Medical Center.
Roberto Alcazar-Sanchez, 27, of Jackson, is believed to have been the driver of the vehicle, authorities said.

Shtab and his wife, Phyllis Shtab, 81, were transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where Mr. Schtab was treated and released. Mrs. Schtab succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Dec. 26.
“We are currently trying to positively identify and locate the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado. This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit, Jackson Township Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit,” Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley B. Billhimer said in a statement Monday.
