Julia Alvarez to Speak at Brookdale on Nov. 25

Community members of all ages are invited to an evening with award-winning novelist Julia Alvarez at the Collins Arena in Lincroft.

Community members of all ages are invited to an evening with award-winning novelist Julia Alvarez at Brookdale Community College’s Collins Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The discussion will center on Alvarez’s bestselling novel “In the Time of Butterflies,” which was read by thousands of Monmouth County students and adults this fall as part of The Big Read 2014.

Alvarez, a Bura Pulpre Award winner and two-time National Book Critics Circle Award finalist, will also answer questions and discuss the book’s themes of human rights, equality and freedom.

“This is a wonderful and very rare opportunity for the community to hear Julia Alvarez speak in person,” said Deborah Degnan, coordinator of the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education (Chhange) at Brookdale.

General admission is $10; student admission is $5. Current Brookdale students can attend for free. Space is limited. To register visit www.chhange.org.
