Local VFW Post To Begin Annual Poppy Distribution

Sites to be set up in numerous locations throughout Howell until Memorial Day

The Howell post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be selling red paper poppies through Memorial Day, organization officials said.

The paper flowers, called "Buddy Poppies,'' have been assembled by veterans and sold by the organization for 90 years. The money collected by their sale goes toward helping veterans in a variety of ways.

The money raised by the poppy distribution provides compensation to the veterans who assemble the poppies, provides financial assistance in maintaining state and national veterans' rehabilitation and service programs and partially supports the VFW National Home for orphans and widows of our nation's veterans, according to the organization.
